Cachao, RIP

Back when I was learning everything I could about bass players I would buy lots of recordings just for the bass playing. Occasionally that brought me to some real music, such as the work of the Cuban bassist Cachao. This great player and composer passed away this past weekend but his beautiful sound will live on.

Wintertime travels

With the first day of spring here's a chance to reflect upon some roadtrips we took back in the Winter:

- visiting LA is a bit of a road trip w/ babygoat getting more and more active. We were able to visit the excellent Nyala once again and enjoyed a good deal of tasty Ethiopian food.

- took a drive up to the Sacramento area and spent most of a day in beautiful Napa. This included a trip to Sterling Vineyards, a beautiful winery atop a hill. The view was slightly better than the wine. And since we were in the area, we were able to make a stop at the Jelly Belly factory and pick up some more delicious Belly Flops.
