Baby Fang

Babygoat has been getting teeth lately, but so far only on the top row (usually bottom row is first); obviously she's been watching the bunnies too closely. I was hoping that YouTube would have a clip of Monty Python's Martin Curry sketch where Graham Chapman has two huge front teeth so I could illustrate to you my darkest fears about Babygoat's future appearance. Alas, it is not among their clips from that episode. And I couldn't even find any pix of Chapman with the huge teeth but you can read the script.

On the bright side, while searching about for these images I did learn that the music played during the Stop the Film segment of the Blackmail sketch is 'Swing-a-Day' by Johnny Hawksworth. This song has been seriously stuck in my head for the past few years. At least that clip's available; and I even came across a great one combining Python with Star Wars.

Music: Song For My Father

In honor of the passing of my first Father's Day as a father, here's a jazz classic. Horace Silver wrote a great tune called Song For My Father and recorded it back in 1964. Then Leon Thomas put some words to it a few years later.

Something that makes me call this a classic is that even though the bass line is very simple, I still love playing this song despite the fact I'm only playing 10 notes (I think) the whole time. In contrast, I liked Ravel's Bolero (which has a similarly uncomplicated bass part) until I had to play it with an orchestra.

Plug: BoGo Light

I liked the idea of BoGo Light so I threw my hard-earned cash at it and got one yesterday. I was pretty happy with how it works and really like the LED-based light source. Buy one and they give one to charity!

Spicing up C-SPAN

Catching up on some things I saved a while back, I really enjoyed watching Barney Frank make for some of the most exciting C-SPAN viewing I've ever seen as he schools a colleague on parliamentary procedure and calls out some Republican whiners. If we had more like him, our legislative body might be as fun as British Parliament.

Colbert has my shirt!

I have mixed feelings about this... I always enjoyed having the very unique Feminist Chicks Dig Me shirt from Northern Sun but now it's been shown on cable to a nationwide audience. Author Jessica Valenti gave Stephen Colbert one of the shirts at the top of her appearance on his show. We'll see if Colbert has the nerve to wear his shirt while walking around two different women's colleges, like I did.
